Singer, songwriter & guitarist J.HONK (aka Herbert Gebetsroither) was born 1957 in Linz, Austria. For the past 40 years, he’s been a resident of Vienna, Europe’s musical metropolis.

He is, without a doubt, one of thelongest-standing and most successful Austrian pop & jazz musicians, songwriters and producers. As a guitar and piano virtuoso, he is at home in both, classical and popular music. His songs arecatchy and melodious, with a jazzy touch, immediately bringing to mind the timeless 60s/70s sound of the Beatles and Burt Bacharach.

In the 80s he created his own inimitable sound mix of pop, jazz, funk & latin elements with the legendary live-band JIVI HONK & THE FUNKPLANET (Album-CD “Got My Style”) and became the Austrian representation of the genre PopJazz, that had been invented by famous musicians such as Sade, Style Council, Chris Rea, Joe Jackson, a.m.o. at the same time..

1987/88 his first double A-side vinyl-singles “Nothing You Can Do/Lovedancer” and “But One day/Space me to the Stars” hit the charts on Austrian’s radiostation Ö3 and the 2025 digital-single re-release “Lovedancer” by HERB G. became an airplay-hit again on radiostations worldwide

Together with guitarist Andy Bartosh he founded the smooth jazz HIP-Honk Instrumental Project in 1993. By 1998, he’d released 3 HIP mini-abums “Sunrider”, “Moonrider” & “Stardance” under his own label HONK Music & Records. Again, these were, and still are, popular airplay-hits on numerous radiostations.

1996 he was contracted by WARNER/CHAPPELL Austria for the classic rock album “Live at the Garage”, yet another milestone production. The very same year, the album-track “Highway of Fame” was featured no less than 930 times on the Austria‘s English language BLUE DANUBE RADIO. At the same time, the live-band HONK ROCK PROJECT was hughely successful.

2005-2015 he coproduced various instrumental compilations together with film- & TV-music producer Arnold Johannes Ratheiser (AJR Music) such as “Music for sports, action & more”, “The Definitive Collection” which had been broadcasted in sports-programmes on TV-stations worldwide.

2018/19 he founded the digital music-label COZZMIC CLUB and started re-releasing his complete song- and musicarchive. 2023 radiostations all over the world have chosen the song “Blue Land” for rotation-airplay. 2025 the single “But One Day” became a streaming-hit on numerous online music-platforms.

Der Singer, Songwriter, Gitarrist & Pianist J.HONK (alias Herbert Gebetsroither), geb. 1957 in Linz, Oberösterreich lebt seit 40 Jahren in der Musikmetropole Wien und zählt zu den erfolgreichsten und langlebigsten österreichischen Pop & Jazzmusikern, Komponisten und Produzenten.

Seine Songs sind melodiöse Hit-Ohrwürmer mit Jazzeinflüssen, die teilweise an den zeitlosen 60er/70er Sound der Beatles und an Burt Bacharach erinnern.

In den 80er Jahren hat er mit der legendären Band JIVI HONK & THE FUNKPLANET einen eigenen, unverkennbaren Pop, Jazz, Funk & Latinsound kreiert (Album-CD: „Got My Style“) und wurde zum österreichischen Vertreter der Musikrichtung PopJazz, die von Musikern wie Sade, Style Council, Chris Rea, Joe Jackson, u.v.a. zur selben Zeit neu eingeführt wurde.

1993 gründete er mit dem Gitarristen Andy Bartosh das smooth jazz-Projekt HIP – Honk Instrumental Project und veröffentlichte auf dem Label Honk Music & Records bis 1998 drei erfolgreiche Mini-Alben, die ebenso bis heute von zahlreichen Stationen gesendet werden.

1996 wurde er vom Major-Verlag WARNER/CHAPPELL Austria für das Classic Rock Meilenstein-Album „Live at the Garage“ unter Vertrag genommen. Der Song „Highway Of Fame“ wurde in den Folgejahren ca. 900 mal pro Jahr von ORF Radio Blue Danube gespielt und die Liveband HONK ROCK PROJECT absolvierte eindrucksvolle und fulminante Konzerte.

2005-2015 produzierte er gemeinsam mit dem Filmmusik-Produzenten Arnold Johannes Ratheiser diverse von Sport TV-Programmen eingesetzte Instrumental-compilations wie u.a. „music for sports, action & more“ oder „The Definitive Collection“. 2019 gründete er das Musiclabel COZZMIC CLUB auf dem kontinuierlich Neuauflagen seiner besten Songs erscheinen.

2023 wurde der Titel „Blue Land“ weltweit von Radiosendern in die Rotation aufgenommen und er absolvierte mehrere Interviews. 2025 wird die neuaufgelegte Single „But One Day“ ein streaming-hit auf zahlreichen onlineMusikplattformen.

Andy Bartosh has made himself a name as an electric guitar virtuoso, backing up such acts as Idris Muhammed, Harri Stojka and The Honk Rock Project.
